all the wisdom in the world
the mistakes we make are the lessons we refuse to learn.

and i repeat the same ones, consciously, defiantly, helplessly.

when i look around, take the time to try to understand the lives and hearts and fears of the people i love, i see their mistakes too, their trials and tests and endlessly repeating cycles.

the thing is, it seems, the more i refuse to learn, the more complicated each situation gets, and the harder it is to make the right choices.

it's the old story of the twelve books of knowledge, and the old woman who was selling them...

when she offered all the knowledge and wisdom in the world to the citizens of the great city for only one sack of gold, they laughed, and sent her away, and she burned half of the books before them.

the next year when she returned, the price was two sacks of gold, for the remaining six books, and again the people mocked her and refused to pay.

and then three books remained, and then only one. and in the end it cost the people of the city sixteen sacks of gold for one twelfth of all the knowledge and wisdom left in the world, when they could have had it all for only one, had they been wise enough to act then.

will i find the strength only to discover there is nothing left to save?
