secret of creation
apropos of nothing, (no, really) i have to share this, the best love scene i've read in a long time. it isn't the most erotic, or the most romantic, or the most intense, but it's the one that touched me. maybe this is what i've been looking for.

(for proper credit, this is from barbara kingsolver's novel 'pigs in heaven', chapter 29 - 'the secret of creation')

Cash moves forward to kiss her. He tastes like woodsmoke and the color of leaves. When he touches her breast, she feels the skin of her nipples gather itself in. She is pierced with a sharp, sweet memory of nursing Taylor, and when he puts his mouth there she feels once again that longing to be drained, to give herself away entirely. Slowly Cash moves himself against her, and then very gently into her, and she feels the same longing coming through his body to hers. They rock against each other, holding on, and the birds in the forest raise their voices to drown out the secret of creation.

i don't know how to explain how potent that is. it just... is.

the colour of leaves must have a taste, because it also has a smell - leaves smell different when they're green and new, or strong and alive, or coloured and dying. and i know what that taste must be.

ok, maybe i'm just being maudlin and ridiculous. in fact, there's a very real possibility that that is exactly what's going on.

i'm a cynical bitch with the heart of an idealist. some days i get along with myself better than others.

today is pissing by committee. an internal monologue that never ends about something that can only be done one way.

and you thought my older entries didn't make any sense.
