imperfect
it's an introspective morning.

i can come out here, on the deck, sheltered from the sight of all the neighbours in their old victorian houses or their city hall condominiums painstakingly built to resemble the older houses surrounding them; stained glass windows and french doors on multiple decks and lilacs, jasmine, and hundred-year-old cherry trees casting dappled shadows everywhere. with my coffee and my laptop i feel very yuppie, sitting in the sun on easter morning, listening to the cbc. i choose not to hear the sirens, to ignore my hospital pants and homemade slippers and the bruises and cuts from work, to pretend in this shining morning that things could ever be this simple, this pure, so ultimately separate from the daily tragedies that people like to identify with their lives.

last week we made a lot of progress on the molders and metallizers, and as i result i ended up with spindles of disks to run through the bonder. (crash course in cd/dvd making; at high temperature, mold plastic pellets into disks. the stamper you choose determines the data - half the disks will be stamped with information, half with remain blank. now coat the stamped disks with a very fine layer of metal (we're using aluminium right now, but there are other options) and start bonding the disks together with lacquer. the clear plastic disks protect the metallized information, keeping it from corroding or getting damaged) because of the finicky, frustrating and infinitely variable process of getting the bonding process right, hundreds of "imperfect" disks are created before you start getting good ones, and i've brought home a box of these imperfect disks. i'm trying to decide what i can use to mount them to bathroom wall right now, hopefully before my roommate gets home.
