the global village

i've seen the global village and it looks just like LA...

it's funny how many people don't see any difference (or any need for a difference) between unity and assimilation. yes, it would be grand if everybody could just get along, but personally i think it would be a tragedy if everyone was the same. travelling through much of america has been, for me, boring because it all looks the same. i'll be the first to admit that i've only (mostly) been through big cities, and not had the chance to truly explore them and find the things (and people) that make them unique and enjoyable... but i'm also strong in my feelings that america (and to a lesser, but just as disturbing degree, canada) is becoming too homogenized. global unity should not, to my mind, mean a m*donald's on every corner.

anyway.

it's a wonderful treat to be here, with my mother, just hanging out and enjoying each other's company. yesterday we went bra/underwear shopping, and it was a riot. my mother discovered (and this is true for most women) that she's been wearing the wrong size bra for years - listen; you were measured for a bra when you were... 13? 14? 15? (if, of course, you're female. if not, disregard) and surely your body has changed over the years? at any rate, it seems that she's not really a 34B, as she's always thought, but instead is the same size as me, give or take... it's so cute - we can swap bras. we also bought plenty 'o underwear, as la senz@ is having a massive sale and practically giving the stuff away. first we spent a few minutes laughing at maribou-trimmed, gold-sequinned ass-floss, and then we filled our arms with comfy cotton briefs. (well... ok... i did buy a pair or two of ass-floss. but mostly sensible cotton briefs.)

we had bar-b-que'd salmon steaks with dad last night, which was also great. i brought him a train from the last toy job i did - he used to work with real trains, and watching him laying track and playing with these little f!sher pr!ce trains was hilarious, but he was having a great time. while mom's away this weekend i'll be hanging out with him, and talking about cars. we might even go kicking tires, if the weather's nice. i almost bought a camaro last week (and it's all my crush's fault i even look at the damn things, let alone considered one) but it was only a 305... now i've found an even older (and more beautiful) 350, and i'm fighting the urge... must... buy... sensible... car...

wish me luck.
