desert dreams
and in my dreams the cities are huge and sprawling and merge across continents and eras. we travelled precariously under cables far above the streets, stone and glass and wires everywhere, and on top of the buildings sat the carrion birds, watching, and waiting, and dropping with frightening grace into the dark valleys between buildings. everything merged - our home in the city was someone else's cottage on a plain, with a stone fireplace and rough wooden flooring, and the supporting beams never did stop moving. we also lived in nomadic tents, filled with ancient things of beauty... books and boxes and always the feathers. they leave their traces in my dreams still, with feathers. and among the books written in french and arabic, the long handled documents and dusty packages, there were toys, of a sort. combine ancient mongolian artifacts with today's high end manga action figures, and this is what you get. well, this or todd mcfarlane's line of toys. really not so very different, when i think about it. ...but the city! in a heartbeat from steel and glass and technology of the darker sort to dust and sand and heavy canvass tents. it was africa, and mongolia, and israel, and new york, and england - but that still doesn't describe it. and always looking for something.
